One of the first commitments I made to myself when I got close to retirement on December 1, 2023 was to develop a consistent watercolor sketching practice.
I began by enrolling in an online class with Maria Cornell-Martin of Arttoolkit.com, Watercolor Fundamentals. It was a fantastic class that both refreshed my skills and added new techniques. I applied some of the learning I did in my seasonal holiday card.

In January, I did two things. First, I joined a Facebook group called 365 Daily Drawings and Other Art, and committed to daily postings. Below is my collection from the first 40 days of 2024.

Second, I enrolled in another online class, Watercolour, this one with Australian sketcher, Liz Steel, I am loving the opportunity to learn from someone with a very different style than mine, and am learning a lot about painting more quickly in a looser style, and using granulating colors more. Below are a couple of examples from assignments.

In addition to sketching, I have been traveling a bit – just a couple of short trips and plan to continue travel sketching.

I have a long way to go, but I am pleased with my commitments and I am loving being a daily sketcher.
