San Diego Travel & Sketching

I just returned from a five day trip to San Diego with a group of friends/former colleagues. It’s always fabulous to wake up with a view of the ocean as the sun comes up and watch the sun set from the living room sofa with the waves crashing outside. The weather was beautiful, as it always is in southern California, though I was surprised at how chilly it got as the sun went down up until mid morning each day. It was very special to spend time with friends in such a beautiful place that has so much to offer.

There were plenty of sights to see, and highlights were the San Diego Zoo, Old Town, Balboa Park, a mystery picnic in Coronado and of course, the beach at Mission Bay where we stayed in a fabulous Airbnb. And I ate the best Mexican meal I have ever eaten!

I totaled five sketches over the course of the five days, which is a much better batting average for me than almost ever. It was helpful to start the day with a sketch, even if I couldn’t take it all the way to paint at that time. I also used my water brush a couple of times, and…I didn’t hate it! I still have much better control with a normal brush, but on the plane it was nice to be able to complete a sketch without dragging out the water pots and dealing with the dirty water left in the end.
